Georgia Lady Bulldog Shacobia Barbee underwent successful surgery on Tuesday 23 February 2016 to repair a fracture of her left distal fibula suffered during this past Sunday’s win over Florida. THIS ENDS THE SEASON FOR HER TEAM as they tanked without her last year. She broke her right leg last year vs vols which knocked her out the rest of the season last season and with it the hopes of the team culminating in Andy Landers retiring early. And, the team lost every game without her and no doubt will again this season. I hold no hope for us.

Thank you Shacobia Barbee !

Joni Taylor will have to pull a rabbit out of her hat to win another game.

If Marjorie Butler sees this as meaning she needs to take more shots, we will be BLOWN-OUT every game the entire rest of the season.

I do not have to tell what this means for The Lady Bulldogs this season either.

“Shacobia Barbee, who broke the same bone in her right leg last season, is averaging 12.7 points and leads the team with 9.1 rebounds per game. She is second on the team with 3.8 assists per game.”

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/georgia-senior-barbee-surgery-season-ending-injury-231817884–ncaaw.html

She is a lot more than that.  She is the heart and soul of the team, as seen by the swoon without her last season.

The Lady Bulldogs had made it up to # 29 in the latest AP Poll at 20-7.  There are players who have to step up if this season now does not tank as last season.  You do not need me to tell you who you are do you Caliya Robinson , Pachis Roberts , Halle Washington , Amber Skidgel , Shanea Armbrister , and Haley Clark specifically.

Georgia Lady Bulldog Shacobia Barbee ends her career at Georgia with now both her right leg last season and now her left leg this season – both broken legs.  This tears at the fabric of all our fans to hear this devastating news to our team leader yet again another season – her junior and now senior seasons.

I lettered in basketball.  I scoff at anyone who says the game played in shorts is a non-contact game.

She will be a top WNBA draft pick.  One of the top handful of players in All of this great nation.  She will play in the WNBA as long as he wants.  She is the best player we have had at Georgia and that is saying something.

She puts up triple doubles.  If she needs to shoot, she makes it.  She steals.  She shoots free throws.  She does not foul.  She rebounds.  She dishes off. She plays defense.  She is the person who has the assists and does not turn the ball over.  She is what she is.  She is simply the finest player I have seen.  She makes her 3-point shots.  She plays the most minutes on the entire team.

We can hope that the NCAA does not hold this against the team, but based on last season’s performance stepping-up for her, they would be remiss to add us to the NCAA Tournament based upon what we did with her, without her now.  I hate to report this.

But, I do not hold out much hope that Caliya Robinson , Pachis Roberts , Halle Washington , Amber Skidgel , Shanea Armbrister , and Haley Clark specifically will do their job in her stead.  In the fact the whole team went into a swoon last season without her.

Her teammates certainly let her down last season.

Didn’t they ?

Shacobia Barbee is the only player that really matters to the team in all 27 of our games this season.  There were 2 other gals who played in all 27 games with you, but they both are bit role players in comparison.

916 minutes are tops on the team this season.

33.9 minutes per game are tops of the team this season.

Started all 27 games top on the team this season.

Only 2 on the team shot better from the field this season than she and neither of them made as many baskets as she.

Only 1 on the team made more 3-point shots as she.

She also led the team in made free throws.

She had twice as many rebounds as everyone else on the season.

She nearly averaged a double-double.

Triple double.

The least player on the team in personal fouls, she brought her lunch bucket to work and did her job without fouling.

Only 1 on the team had 6 more total assists than she all season.

And, that 1 had 5 more turnovers than she.

Only 2 on the team had more blocked shots.

Also the team leader in steals.

If the AP wants to write that about her, they should look at the stats and what she really meant to us.

Mackenzie Engram will be missing her 14th game in a row Thursday night for us while she was a Starter January 3 in her last game.

That is then 2 of our Starters.

Just damn.

These are not only 2 of our 5 Starters but these are 2 of the most dynamic women’s basketball players and both sure to be WNBA players.

Lady Bulldogs (20-7) beat Top 25 Florida 74-63 for 5th win of season vs ranked teams as Shacobia Barbee has reinjured her other ankle this season after her other leg caused her to miss the end of last season as finally we get almost ranked ourselves sitting just outside the Top 25 coming-in. RPI # 23 pre-game we will move-up to about # 19 PRI and have now beat 7 top RPI teams this season already all 7 who are IN THE BIG DANCE ALREADY ! This is our 30th 20-Win Season. Mackenzie Engram will be missing her 14th game in a row Thursday night for us as well while she was a Starter January 3 in her last game.

Shacobia Barbee and her senior-laden teammates beat Florida at the Stegesaurus this afternoon.

The SEC is the toughest conference in this sport as well, and we’re a winning record in The SEC and already were # 23 in the RPI, now to move up to about # 19 today in the RPI.

NCAA Tournament Queens, The Lady Bulldogs are making a strong run this season with a very tough strength of schedule.  Many women’s teams this season have run-up their record on weak sisters of the poor such as Texas Maryland Florida State Florida and Duquesne but this day we exposed a team who just hasn’t played the great opponents we have all season long.

And, beat them.

# 23 in the RPI pre-game, The Lady Bulldogs’ Basketball team this year has now beat :

# 11 RPI BYU

# 20 Florida

# 20 RPI Florida again today

# 32 Mississippi State

# 33 Missouri

# 38 RPI Seton Hall

# 52 RPI Auburn

There are 2 games remaining in the regular season Thursday and then next Sunday’s national televised game against the vols then The SEC Tournament.

We have now won 6 of our last 7 games with the only loss here at the end of the season when you have to be hot to get ranked and to get a high seed to 25-1 South Carolina who is # 2 in the RPI.

The Lady Bulldogs will be on the SEC Network whip-around Thursday night at 7 p.m. and I really like the whip-around where you really get to see all the Top SEC Teams all night long and really miss very little of any of the top games.  It’s an amazing concept I love from the SEC Network.  You really get to see what a great conference The SEC is.  We all want to see our team play.  We all get to with Whip Around SEC Network.  I love it.  We will be playing Arkansas who is the last team we play who can not play.  Although for the 1st time in more than 3 decades this has all caught-up with the vols.  I questioned their choice as coach, as I did ours.  These 2 programs both should have hired a proven head coach the best in the nation.  vols face not even being a ranked team.  That last happened in 1985.

We will see if we can get by lowly Arkansas Thursday and face a vols team who just stands around on offense and waits for someone to pass them the ball.  Seen better high school basketball.

If we had all our horses I’d love our chances this season.  Without Mackenzie Engram and without Shacobia Barbee, we shall not beat any real team – unless some on the bench do this season that which they made no effort to last season.

Tiaria Griffin had 28 points capping her career as he goes high in the WNBA Draft up-coming.  Shacobia Barbee 20 points and her ankle is unknown just that she could not get back on the court and she might actually be higher drafted.  Pachis Roberts had 13 points and she comes back next season.  While Marjorie Butler who will be our Lady Bulldogs’ 4th Academic All-America had a usual game shooting at 0-8 from the field but did ice the game with her 2-2 of free throws.  In order to be Academic All-America the player in question MUST be a Starter.  It’s been an unusual career watching her play or should I say jack it up for a gal who has no hope of hitting the broad side of the barn.  Bricks ?  That would be a compliment to Marjorie Butler to say that she throws-up bricks.  Bricks take exception to that slight.

http://www.georgiadogs.com/sports/w-baskbl/stats/2015-2016/uga27.html

Of the 8 who play 15 minutes of the 40-minute games (4 quarters this season began)  Marjorie Butler is # 8 the worst dead-last shooter on the team at just .321.  Most of her shots are lay-ups.  Or her shooting percentage would be worse.  Marjorie Butler is also 8th at shooting 3-point shots making only 11 of 51 jacked-up.  They are lucky they clip the backboard.

1st year coach Joni Taylor who played at Alabama is ALLOWED to not Start and play Marjorie Butler some and he still be named our 4th Academic All-America.

http://www.georgiadogs.com/sports/w-baskbl/stats/2015-2016/teamcume.html

Fran Tarkenton was the 1st Georgia Bulldog in any sport to be named Academic All America.

Kirby is another Academic All-America for Georgia.

Congratulations to The Lady Bulldogs on a fine season this season so far with the biggest games up-coming.

The Lady Bulldogs – Top 5 Basketball Program All-Time:

I predicted us this season at no worse than 21-9 after The SEC Tournament and no worse than 9-8 SEC as you can see in the previous posts here on this blog.  We’re 20-7 and 8-6 SEC now.

Florida was # 22 in the AP Poll and I predicted we were 1 more big win away from being ranked in the Top 25 ourselves.  We’ll see how that goes as obviously playing the vols next Sunday on National TV is a gargantuan task.

The SEC is ranked The # 1 Women’s Basketball Conference obviously this year.

http://warrennolan.com/basketballw/2016/conferenceelo

Mackenzie Engram still was unable to go today again and has now missed every game starting January 7.  Thursday’s night televised game with be her 14th game in a row she has missed.  The last game Mackenzie Engram played in she Started against # 20 Missouri January 3.

Our Ladies have been in 31 of all of the 34 previous NCAA Women’s Division I Basketball Championship Tournaments and this will be 32 of the All-Time 35 since it started for Women in 1982 – this is # 2 All-Time in the Nation ! We also have been ranked 522 times in the AP Poll which is also # 2 All-Time although none this year so getting ranked this season is VERY IMPORTANT to our senior class which includes 4 of our 5 starters and 1 bench player Terry Godwin’s sister.  We are a Top 5 Women’s Basketball Program All-Time.  We have had 20 WNBA Draft Picks since 1999 which is # 4 in the nation and have 3 more who will be after this season.  65 in a row – every 4-year letterman ever here – have graduated for 36 consecutive seasons and this will be 37.  We will have another Academic All-America being named this season as well to bring the total to 4 of our Lovely Lady Bulldogs’ Basketball Players who have been named Academic All-America !  We have 86 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament Wins All-Time so we are EXPECTED to add to that this season.  Our ladies are embraced nationally as a Consensus Top 5 program on and off the court in the classrooms and the community and our fans are the # 1 fans of this sport we do so well in.  We continue to develop this season again top talent obviously and the very top student-athletes.  We have 4 Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.  One of only 3 American Athletes who have Won Gold Medals at 4 Different Olympics the Most Decorated Basketball Player in Olympics’ history. 1 of 4 American All-Time Women’s FIBA Federation International Basketball Amateur Hall of Fame.  In 2007 we opened “Georgia Coliseum Training Facility” a $30 million dollar 120,000 square feet nation’s largest basketball practice facility where 3 years in a row now this year the Atlanta Hawks do their pre-season practice – most impressive in the nation.   We average over 24 wins a season All-Time also Top 5 program in the nation.  11 eleven SEC Titles.  This is our 30th 20-Win Season !  Every game is on TV and Every game can be heard LIVE on FM Radio including in Atlanta on 103.7 WXKT-FM even in your car.  I thought you should know.  Our men are a different story.  Both would benefit from a new gym in retaining in-state talent as well as attracting out-of-state talent and we are BEHIND in supporting our teams with this new gym with the over $150 million revenue annually our teams make us.  Our “Georgia Excellence Campaign” has this new gym as their # 1 next goal.

2-21-2016

The Lady Bulldogs with RPI # 24 vs. Strength of Schedule # 23 can emerge after SEC Championship Tournament no worse than 21-9 and 9-8 vs. SEC teams with BIG WINS over RPI # 19, 21, 22, & 29 putting us solidly in the NCAA Tournament. In fact, we are 1 MORE Big Win away from being ranked in AP & Coaches Polls. The SEC has 8 teams solidly in The NCAA Women’s Division I Basketball Championship Tournament with 2 more on the bubble at # 52 & # 61. The SEC is ranked The # 1 Women’s Basketball Conference obviously this year. We only have 5 ladies who shoot the ball well and only 3 ladies who make their free throws. We foul way too much but we do play well on Defense, rebound well and we do not turn the ball over. We are deep although Mackenzie Engram has missed now 7 Consecutive Games. Our Ladies have been in 31 of all the 34 previous NCAA Women’s Division I Basketball Championship Tournaments and this will be 32 of the All-Time 35 since it started for Women in 1982 – this is # 2 All-Time in the Nation ! We will have another Academic All-America being named this season as well to bring the total to 4 of our Lovely Lady Bulldogs’ Basketball Players who have been named Academic All-America ! Our “Georgia Excellence Campaign” has this new gym as their # 1 next goal.

If we built a big enough new gym, we could force the Atlanta Hawks to play 1 NBA game a year at our new gym in return for what we’ve done for them 3 years in a row now.  In fact, there could be MORE NBA and WNBA games here if we do this correctly, as well as hosting NCAA Men’s and Women’s Division I Basketball Championship Tournament games, Final 4, and SEC Championships as well and for others of our 23 sports – all of whom would benefit from a new gym with this annual in excess now of $ 150 million dollars revenue our sports teams at UGA now generate for us as an annuity. It is the # 2 ROI we could put this annuity toward – primarily basketball – ranking only behind the ROI for football as a destination for this in excess now of $ 150 million dollar annual annuity.

There is more meat in this 1 blog post than in all the other blog posts combined today by all Georgia blogs and newspaper stories.  This also is the # 1 blog post all-time about The Lady Bulldogs today.  By these standards this post is short only 794 words, fully documented and 100 percent accurate as you have become accustomed to here – as has been PROVEN – including my predictions which have been uncannily correct as well – some to your personal chagrin !  So I offer-up this Super Sunday before the game.

2-7-2016

Men too many turnovers, not enough rebounds, no defense. Lady Bulldogs can NOT shoot !

Nothing new about either one.

Marjorie Butler Watch : 1 of 6  That is 16 % shooting Marjorie Butler .

Again !

Quit jacking the ball up.

I would bench your ass.

I do not care that we do not have a point guard.

Benched gal.

Caliya Robinson can shoot !

Pass the ball to her.  I told you she is a budding superstar !

Instead, 1 of 6 shooter shoots ?

Caliya Robinson 3 of 5.  60 %.

Duh.

This is bad coaching.  This has gone on the entire career of our point guard, who was recruited here by Joni Taylor our coach.

Yet, Joni Taylor puts her right back out there.

And she JACKS it UP !

Doink !

She throws up bricks.

Worst shooter on the team takes 6 shots and the budding superstar takes fewer shots yet makes 3 times as many baskets.

?

Selfish.

Stupid.

This is where we Lost the game again tonight, again.  It sets a horrible example for the team when the man with the ball, dribbles the ball up-court and selfishly takes 6 shots while our budding superstar gets fewer shots when she is 1 of 6 EVERY FRIQIN’ game.

Same EVERY game.

WTF ?

I am the ONL Y person who can see this ?

Coach Andy Landers QUIT this team because of this kind of shooting for 4 years’ time now by Marjorie Butler.

No different last year, or year before or year before that, or this year.

Same.

Caliya Robinson plays 10 minutes and Marjorie Butler plays 40.

Not on my team.

I take her aside and have a talking to.

I then say it again to her in front of her teammates next.

Then, I bench her.

And, she sits.

Do NOT shoot the ball Marjorie Butler.

Whip-Around coverage by SEC Network tonight, and I saw really all of it.  It was good.  I like that !

29 % for the season this season, Marjorie Butler.

WTF are you doing gal ?

Forty (40) Three-point shots on the season.

Guess how many Marjorie Butler, who can NOT shoot, made of the 40 ?

7.

17 % from beyond the arc.

Good Lord gal, how damn selfish !

Get lost Marjorie Butler.

Pack your bags.

Go to medical school.

Goodbye.

We will suffer through it without a point guard.

Bye-bye now.

Don’t let the screen door slam on your sorry ass on the way out !

You pass the ball off those 6 shots to Caliya Robinson, we WIN !

Dumbass.

Selfish !

So SELFISH !

Yes, Griffin was fouled on the arm on the baseline final shot.  She was all over her arm.  Defender reached out with her left arm and hacked her in the act from 3-point line down by 2 with 3 seconds remaining.  3 free throws.  We win that game !  Horrible officiating !

Doesn’t ALTER the fact that the game should have been won at HOME before that.

MEN :

We have 29 more turnovers than our opponents.  And, it gets WORSE every game !

Look guys this is unacceptable.

If we pass you the ball and you are SO OUT OF CONTROL that you lose the ball to the opponents instead of this great shooting team around you making a basket, you are giving them 2 points and taking 2 points away from us.

Pretty simple game guys.

You throw the ball through the hoop, not throw the ball to the opponents, and you have 2 courts to PLAY.  Half the time you are playing defense trying to get THEM to turn the ball over to you, or miss.  DEFENSE.  We have no Defense.

Jeez Louise !

Men won last night against Missouri.  Missouri.  That hardly counts.

You LOST to Florida.

You had TOO MANY TURNOVERS

NOT ENOUGH REBOUNDS

NO DEFENSE.

This is not working guys.  You need to look at little Frazier, J.J. as he gets 5 boards a game.  5 !

I would be ashamed of myself, if I played defense that poorly and could not block out underneath any better than that.

Disgraceful guys !

Frazier, J.J. gets 5 rebounds EVERY GAME and you sit there resting on defense, and let him get more rebounds than you.

Shameful.

Shame on YOU !

One guy only on the whole entire team gets more rebounds than what is he 5″ 9″ Frazier, J.J.  It has nothing to do with height it is ALL defense and staying between your man and the basket.  And, blocking out.

Move your feet.

Rest on the bench.

NOT on defense !

The Ladies can not shoot to save their souls and the Men turn the damn ball over play no defense and do not position themselves for rebounds.  I presume you neither are pleased ?

It is going to be a long season if y’all keep this up.

You’re not winning any fans over like this.  And, we won’t get our new gym playing like this Men or Ladies.
